::The Friendly Kookaburra::

Yesterday afternoon I was visited by the friendly Kookaburra. He sat on the railing outside and ate some dog sausage. Kookaburra's do tend to be quite fearless birds and I've met and fed them many times before now. Kookaburras have a call which sounds somewhat like laughter and as you see they've a big personality too.

My exams are finished. My essays are in. My podcast is coming along nicely AND I've a pile of DVD's to watch. So much time and so little to do! Well not really, I know how to keep myself occupied! Now that all the serious stuff is out the way I've got time to have a go at podcasting, yes, that's right, podcasting! The inaugural NovyMir Podcast ought to be out in 24 hours or so and adhering to my principle of 'and now for something completely different' a la John Cleese and the gang the theme will be news, views and analysis of Central Asia. Yup, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan... nice one. ;-) Finally, for now, a big shout out to you photoblog.com'o'philes who make my days with your nice comments!

Whilst this is not a photograph I took myself, it is very special to me and hence is photoblogable. In the group are the final two cohorts of the Bachelor of Chinese Medicine degree course run by Victoria University, Melbourne, Australia. One of the girls has made it into the the Australian Paralympic tennis team and this was taken after the congratulory lunch. Such a nice photograph of everyone. On another note, I am fully aware that some of you are really hoping I will get active again, and I promise you that I will soon, once my next round of exams are out the way and I have a few moments away from the books I will get busy 'graphing again. Catching Up

Since I returned to Melbourne last week I have had little time to pick up my camera and go hunting for photographs for you all so I thought I ought to post some more photographs from Tasmania where I was the week before last. Featuring: My wonderful parents and the stone cairn they have been building a stone or two at a time on the hill behind their house. Also featuring Jemma the beautiful German Sheppard who, due to her unearthly beauty and astounding good looks made the cut. This semester at uni has 4 weeks remaining which means I'm beginning to get a little snowed under with assessments and study; to which I thumb my nose. And then spend a lot of time working on. If any of you, NovyMir watchers, work in a hospital- anywhere in the world, then drop me a line. I'm seeking a job for next year. I have been making enquiries to work in the field of veteran rehabilitation in Britain and the states... Anyhoo... back to my papers. Ooroo

New Glasses

I got some new glasses, but the lenses were cut for the wrong frames... so I got these 'grandpa' glasses and I'm waiting for my 'real' pair to show up... I don't mind so much as it means 2 pairs of glasses... I now have 2 'looks'... I have been in Tasmania for a week when I ought to have been attending lectures in Melbourne... less than 20 weeks and I will be a Dr. of Chinese medicine... yes! Must say that I think the flame of democracy needs to be kindled to toast the gerontological authoritarian regime in Beijing... it was great to see the 10,000 Chinese students bussed to Canberra for the Olympic torch relay to be so proud and loud and out there... but if they were Tibetan activists in China... I know all about the longstanding 'Han' claim on Tibet but was interested to learn about the Tibetan subjugation of the Tang in 786... therefore....

Polar Express

I've been experimenting Polarised flash photography at night. I decided when I began with Photoblog that I'd never use post-processing on any of my images. I have stuck with that and still do as the preceeding were taken using the polar mode on my camera. I first noticed how good polarised flash photgraphy at night was when I wanted to capture the spider of the previous post one night in my friends backyard. I have started a new project with tumblr.com. The concept is the matching of photographs with literary-ish captions in a moment to moment, as I feel format. Sort of twitter, sort of photoblog, but not quite either. Perhaps one could term it 'tumblin photo-twit'... never mind, here's the sex pistols, no, url I mean. novymir.tumblr.com to follow me on twitter by the way, my username is novymir.
